“C for Culture” is a Hong Kong Arts Development Council-funded monthly magazine. The inaugural issue will be launched on the coming 9 May 2008! The magazine will be dedicated to a special emphasize on the critiques of overall arts and cultural environment in Hong Kong.
“C for Culture” is a magazine with jointed efforts of a group of cultural practitioners, journalists and critics who share the enthusiasm in improving the cultural environment with quality writings and reviews. Led by the experienced cultural editor, Mr Chiu Loi-fat as Chief Editor, the magazine will bring audience to look into Hong Kong arts and culture in an ever broader perspective.
Broader Vision – Seeing culture and society as a whole
In a world with blooming information, people might not assimilate so many ideas and understand different city phenomena at a time, while even more information will emerge the next day. “C for Culture” is hoping to re-connect together those piece-by piece and disconnected information, phenomenon and ways of interpretation, and to provide audience with more comprehensive views on perceiving our city culture and society as a whole.
Reunite Cultural Forces by providing broader platform for idea exchange
With more and more magazines emphasizing on images and photographs to astound people, space for writings is relatively small and continue diminishing. “C for Culture” believes that “words” are still a powerful implement in conveying ideas and thoughts for later generations. The magazine will strike a balance between text and image, and to provide maximum freedom and space for writers to express their ideas. The magazine has invited some long forgotten cultural critics from both Hong Kong and abroad, as well as young writers, regardless of languages, to reunite them together in exchange of thoughts and views on today’s arts and cultural development.
Three major sections will be included in the magazine:
1) “People” – Looking into life, thoughts and concerns of various cultural practitioners.
2) Observations and critiques on arts and cultural development in relation to city scenes and social phenomena.
3) Critiques and opinions by writers on various arts and cultural events and issues.
“C for Culture” is a magazine that aims to evoke our joyful experience in the art creation and ppreciation, even in our hard time struggling for a survival for living with art in Hong Kong!
